Analysis of Growth Environment of Terpenoid Insects by Leaf Humidity Recorder

The atmospheric humidity near the leaf surface is very important for the normal growth and development of small insects and mites that inhabit leaf surfaces. Some arthropods, such as two-pointed leaves, spend most of their life on plant foliage. Aphids are widely distributed, feeding plant leaves and fruit, and harming many important economic crops and greenhouse plants. Like other small arthropods, ticks spawn on the back of the leaf. The analysis of temperature and humidity of the leaves by leaf moisture recorders has a great influence on the survival rate, growth rate and fertility of the ticks.

The environmental conditions around the terrestrial plant leaves are different from the environmental conditions within a very small area near the foliage. Close to the leaf mask a stable air layer or critical layer, its thickness is affected by a variety of factors. In the static condition of air (free convection), the stabilizing layer is thickest (up to 5-10 mm). Its thickness is affected by the shape, size, hairiness of the leaf, the humidity measured by the leaf wetness recorder, and the site of growth on the plant (sunny or shady). The turbulence created by the flow of air (forced convection) around the leaves can destroy the air layer and thin the effective stable layer.

When the leaf surface humidity recording instrument is rough and cannot meet the experimental requirements, this model can be used to estimate the humidity in the boundary layer in a stationary (or nearly static) air. As long as the thickness of the stable gas layer is carefully determined, the method of recording the wetness of the leaf surface can also be applied under windy conditions. After determining the thickness of the stable gas layer, it is also possible to use this model to estimate the water vapor concentration gradient.
