Huaxin Cement "Contaminated Disposal of Contaminated Soil in Cement Kiln" Passed Appraisal

Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology recently organized the appraisal of major scientific and technological achievements. A new achievement of “Construction of harmless and resource-based cement kiln for the disposal of contaminated soil engineering technology and applications” has been considered to have completely independent intellectual property rights and the overall technical level has reached the international lead.

Agricultural pesticide pollution in rural areas in China and urban industrial land pollution are relatively common. Disposal of contaminated soil has become a major problem. In recent years, Huaxin Cement Co., Ltd. has explored a new contaminated soil harmless treatment method: the contaminated "toxic soil" is sent to a fully enclosed cement furnace with a temperature of up to 1,600 degrees Celsius, and is subjected to continuous alkaline high-temperature calcination. Detoxify "toxic soil" and turn it into cement.

The disposal process and disposal equipment of the contaminated soil disposal project was independently developed by Huaxin Cement and was put into use in Wuxi, Hubei in February 2012. The contaminated soil that has been powdered, dried, and detoxified can be fed to a cement kiln to replace some of the siliceous materials and produce cement clinker that fully meets the quality standards. Since the project was put into production, it has received more than 200,000 tons of contaminated soil.

A group of academicians and professors from the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, the China Building Materials Research Institute, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, and Wuhan Engineering University made a comprehensive assessment of the project and believed that the project was the first to propose Balanced system technology, as well as the high-temperature point input and disposal technology program of organic contaminated soil, and independently developed a high-efficiency precalciner kiln equipment and drying pulverizer, the overall technology has reached the international lead.

During the implementation of the project, the removal rate of DDT and HCHs (pesticides) in the whole system is greater than 99.9999%, and all the indexes of exhaust emissions are far below the national limits. The Committee of Experts recommends that the promotion and application of this technology be accelerated.
