Teijin Group Promotes Environmentally Friendly Polyester Production Technology

On March 27th, Teijin Co., Ltd. held a press conference on the chemical recycling technology and titanium catalyst technology of polyester at the China International Textile New Technology Exhibition.
Mr. Kitahiro, Director of the Overseas Business Development Office of Teijin Group introduced the Teijin Group's environmental safety policy. As a leading manufacturer of synthetic fibers based on chemical technology, Teijin Group puts forward the Declaration of "Enhancing the Quality of Human Life through Deep Understanding of Humanity and Extensive Creativity," and the Teijin Group's Earth Environmental Charter. 》 Actively carry out environmental safety activities.
Mr. Sato, the director of the raw material superposition division, introduced "Polyester's chemical recycling technology and titanium catalyst technology." Teijin's chemical recycling technology for polyester products has undergone basic research for nearly 10 years and was put into use in 2002. Currently used polyester fiber products are used as raw materials to produce fiber products from fiber to fiber and used The production of polyester raw materials for polyester bottles - "from bottle to bottle" of polyester polymers has been put into operation in Matsuyama and Tokuyama, Japan, respectively, with production capacities of 10,000 t/a and 50,000 t/a, respectively. Using recycled products as raw materials to produce polyester raw materials (DMT) using recycled recycling technology and DMT using petroleum as raw materials, the quality of products is exactly the same. In addition, the former's energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by about 80%.
Currently, only Teijin and Asahi Kasei are the only manufacturers that use renewable recycling technology in the world. The latter's production capacity is 3000t/a. Some Chinese companies also carry out production from "bottles to bottles", but only 20% of the products are made from recycled raw materials, and the remaining 80% are still products of petroleum raw materials. Mr. Sato said: “We have also discussed the issue of transferring chemical recycling technology with Chinese companies. However, we face many obstacles. The main problem is that Chinese companies with equipment have no guaranteed raw material supply, and waste materials from downstream fiber companies do not It has never been a reality to use."
The traditional polyester production process generally uses heavy metal antimony as a polymerization catalyst. Teijin Group has developed a non-heavy metal catalyst that is environmentally friendly and mainly composed of titanium. Teijin announced that it will expand the production of this heavy metal-free polyester product and begin technology transfer. Now, Teijin has begun to engage with several companies in Japan and overseas to discuss technology transfer issues.
