The College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Yangzhou University adopts a new type of technology and reuses waste tires. It is not only environmentally friendly, but also can replace natural rubber products. At present, this technology has obtained national patents and demonstration applications in some enterprises in Yangzhou.

According to statistics, there are as many as 20 million tons of discarded tires each year. Among them, China produces about 233 million waste tires, equivalent to about 3 million tons of rubber resources. If it can be recycled, it will be equivalent to 5 years of natural rubber production.

Nowadays, the disposal of waste rubber is mainly in the following two ways: The first is incineration, loss of valuable chemical resources, and environmental pollution; the second is the use of chemical or physical methods to desulfurize waste rubber. This method was more widely adopted in recent years.

Dr. Liu Junliang of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Yangzhou University introduced that many waste waters and waste liquids produced by chemical desulfurization still cause great secondary pollution.

The new technology researched by Yangzhou University mainly focuses on the high-quality green recycling of waste rubber, and focuses on the development of key technologies for the preparation of magnetic and wave-absorbing elastomeric materials by waste rubber green composites, and skillfully uses magnetic ferrite particles as functional substances or The modified ferrite particle itself absorbs the microwave characteristics, and simultaneously achieves the desulfurization activation of the powdered powder and the in-situ modification of the surface of the magnetic ferrite particle under the microwave-assisted condition, and solves the interface between the secondary molding vulcanization of the rubber powder and the organic-inorganic composite. With regard to compatibility, the green composite of rubber powder was realized with no or few additives, and functional elastomer composites were successfully prepared.
