Michelin recently announced that it will open an R&D center in India, mainly developing truck tires for the Asian market. Now it has begun recruiting engineers locally. The new R&D center will be located in Gurgaon near New Delhi and the current scale of investment has not yet been disclosed. This will be the first time Michelin has set up an R&D center in a developing country. Michelin CEO Jean-Dominique Senard stated that “India is a dynamic market, but we are now understanding the market situation. According to our observations, the new government envisages the correct direction of reform, not only to further develop the business. It will be easy and will improve the local infrastructure. This is exactly what we need." Michelin India has invested nearly 40 billion rupees (about 648 million U.S. dollars) in Chennai and opened a truck tire factory. The factory's current production of truck tires is specifically designed and developed based on India's roads and weather conditions.
